MBRG Names Steinmetz, Myers to Board

Maryland Business for Responsive Government (MBRG) has named Barcoding Inc. founder and CEO Jay Steinmetz and Sandy Spring Bank Vice President Bradley Myers to its board of directors. Steinmetz is a media source regarding RFID, wireless, mobile and the AIDC industry; Myers works with local companies whose revenues range from $5 million to $100 million.

Howard Teachers Named Science Fellows

Two Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) science teachers have been chosen as fellows in the New Science Teacher Academy (NSTA). Amy Connor from Oakland Mills High School and Allison Kipping from Wilde Lake High School will participate in the academy with two other Maryland teachers, as well as 31 other science teachers from five other states and Washington, D.C. NSTA selects only 35 middle and secondary science teachers from across the country to be part of the academy.

AAEDC CEO Hannon Resigns

Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh recently accepted the resignation of Anne Arundel Economic Development Corp. (AAEDC) CEO Robert Hannon, who was recently arrested for burglary. County Chief Administrative Officer Mark Hartzell will continue to act as AAEDC CEO until a permanent replacement is selected.

VOR Hires Buie

VOR Technology, of Hanover, has hired Rodney Buie as chief financial officer. Rodney previously served in the same capacity for the TeleCommunication Systems Cyber Security division.

CarneyKelehan’s Fastow Elected to MSBA Council

Peter Fastow, an associate attorney with Columbia-based law firm Carney, Kelehan, Bresler, Bennett & Scherr, was elected to the section council of the Real Property Section of the Maryland State Bar Association (MBSA) for the 2016–17 term. Fastow has been practicing law in Maryland for 24 years.

Adair Goes Full-Time for NAMI Office

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Maryland has hired Alikah Adair as its new programs and training coordinator. She previously served the organization as NAMI Howard County’s program coordinator.

Nitz Joins HCCC

Jon Nitz has joined the Howard County Chamber of Commerce (HCCC) as program assistant. He will assist the chamber with multiple programs and support its full event schedule.

Linwood Center Welcomes Butler

Linwood Center has hired Diann Butler as the new education director for the Linwood School program. Butler, who joins Linwood Center with 35 years of experience supporting children with special needs, will be responsible for day-to-day operations of the school program.

Oppel Joins HCAC

Tammy Oppel has joined the Howard County Arts Council (HCAC) staff as deputy director. For eight years, she served as program manager at Arts Every Day, a nonprofit organization that prepares and places teaching artists in 36 Baltimore City Schools.

Wilson Joins Oasis Mental Health

Jennifer Wilson is a new licensed clinical professional counselor at Oasis: The Center for Mental Health, of Annapolis. Wilson also works as a psychiatric clinician in the emergency room at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

American Banker Cites Scully

Howard Bank CEO Mary Ann Scully has been named by American Banker as one of the 25 Women to Watch on its Most Powerful Women in Banking list. Scully placed 12th in the annual ranking.

Children’s Guild to Honor BGE’s Woerner

Stephen Woerner, president and COO of BGE, has been selected as The Children’s Guild’s 2017 Sadie Award winner. Woerner will be honored at Cabaret for Kids on March 11, 2017, at the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center in Baltimore, where “The Power Behind the Power,” an original musical production about Woerner’s life, will be performed at the Hippodrome.

Pantelides Nominates HACA Board Member

Annapolis Mayor Michael Pantelides announced John Dillon as his new nomination for the Housing Authority of the City of Annapolis (HACA) Board of Commissioners at tonight’s City Council meeting. Dillon is the founder and former president of Chrysalis, a nonprofit organization in Los Angeles, Calif.
