The long-awaited Maryland Live! Casino at Arundel Mills opens at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, and is on course to become one of the largest gaming, retail and entertainment destinations in the country.
The $500 million casino will enhance the Arundel Mills commercial district — already the state’s top tourist attraction, with more than 14 million visitors annually — with unique, state-of-the-art gaming, dining, shopping and entertainment experiences.
Maryland Live! rests on approximately 12 acres with more than 330,000 total square feet of gaming floor, restaurants, performance venues, bars and support space. The gaming floor alone is approximately 160,000 square feet; the casino will feature 4,750 Las Vegas-style slot machines and electronic table games, including Blackjack, Roulette, Mini-Baccarat and Pai Gow Poker. Slot offerings will include a mix of the latest games with classic favorites, such as Wheel of Fortune, Sex and the City, Wizard of Oz, Hot Shots and a full line of Quick Hits and Progressives.
Additionally, the project brings a variety of dining and nightlife options to the area, including new locations for local restaurant favorites, such as Phillips Seafood and The Prime Rib; along with nationally-recognized brands, such as Bobby’s Burger Palace, from celebrated chef Bobby Flay; and The Cheesecake Factory. The Live! Market Buffet and Noodles, an Asian wok and noodle bar, round out the culinary offerings.
Rams Head Entertainment also will have a state-of-the-art entertainment venue on location, Rams Head Center Stage, featuring live entertainment nightly. The 500-seat facility is expected to attract popular local and national artists; and guests can place their bets while placing their drink orders at the R Bar, a unique, interactive bar inspired by the game of Roulette.
Approximately 1,500 people will be employed by the casino, which is also expected to raise $400 million in revenue for the state and an additional $30 million for Anne Arundel County. The project broke ground in January 2011, and has employed more than 2,500 during its construction. Job openings are currently posted online at www.jobsatmarylandlivecasino.com.
“The project is scheduled to open in two phases,” said Carmen Gonzales, director of communications for Maryland Live! Casino. “The first phase, [which opens] in June, will feature 3,200 slot machines and electronic table games; all of our restaurant offerings, except The Prime Rib; a high-limit electronic table games room; and a 5,000-space parking garage with self-park and valet.”
Phase two openings between July and October will include Rams Head Center Stage, The Prime Rib, a Shop Live! retail store, a bus lounge and an additional 1,550 slots and electronic table games, including a high limit slots room.
The project is being developed by the Cordish Companies. Cordish, now in its fourth generation of family ownership, is one of the leading gaming, entertainment and real estate development companies in the United States. Locally headquartered, other area Cordish properties include the Power Plant and Pier IV in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, Ocean City Factory Outlets and many other entertainment and retails venues throughout North America.
Maryland Live! Casino is located near BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport at 7002 Arundel Mills Circle in Hanover, which is just south of the intersection of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway and Route 100 at Arundel Mills Boulevard.
