Jenn Lim, the CEO and “Chief Happiness Officer” of Delivering Happiness, will deliver the keynote for Leadership Howard County’s (LHC) The Big Event on Wednesday, March 28, at Turf Valley.
She will discuss the company that she co-created with Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos, to inspire happiness in work, community and everyday life. Working together, they created a company culture at Zappos that has been recognized worldwide as a model for an innovative workplace that retains committed employees with an enormously successful business model.
In 2005, Lim created the first “Culture Book” for Zappos, which focused on the company’s core values.
• Deliver WOW through service
• Embrace and drive change
• Create fun and a little weirdness
• Be adventurous, creative and open-minded
• Pursue growth and learning
• Build open and honest relationships with communication
• Build a positive team and family spirit
• Do more with less
• Be passionate and determined
• Be humble
She said, “At Zappos, our belief is that if you get the culture right, most of the other stuff — like great customer service or building a great long-term brand or passionate employees and customers — will happen naturally on its own.”
In 2009, Zappos was sold to Amazon.com in a deal valued at $1.2 billion on the day of closing; in 2011, Zappos was No. 6 on Fortune’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” list. The “Culture Book” has become a global symbol of how companies can successfully create cultures based on happiness and be profitable at the same time.
Today, Lim speaks throughout the country, delivering lessons to companies and organizations on the growing importance of measuring our personal and national well-being in new ways — and the power of happiness to change lives, businesses and communities.
The Big Event starts at 11:30 a.m. It is open to LHC members and the public. Tickets cost $100. Register at www.leadershiphc.org or call 410-730-4474 for more information.
