Raindrops stopped just in time for more than 300 participants in Howard Community College’s (HCC) second annual 5K Challenge Race on Sunday, Nov. 1, to run, climb and crawl through an obstacle-filled course on the college’s campus. With teams from 40 sponsoring organizations, as well as college employees, students and alumni teams, the Howard Community College Educational Foundation raised more than $63,000 to support student scholarships.

The overall Corporate Challenge Champion goes to Harkins Builders. Sponsoring organizations also competed for one of seven Challenge Bowls, with winners as follows.

Davis, Agnor, Rapaport & Skalny (Downtown Columbia Bowl); Cushman & Wakefield (Columbia Gateway Bowl); KCI Technologies (Design & Construction Bowl); Sandy Spring Bank (Finance Bowl); NAI KLNB’s Abby Glassberg (Real Estate Bowl); Turf Valley (The Challenge Bowl); and Columbia Association (Wellness Challenge). The Rouse Faculty won in the HCC Staff/Faculty category, and the HCC Student Team award was claimed by We Got the Runs.

Winners of fastest course time were Rich Thomas (male, 00:18:56) of the Cushman & Wakefield Team; and Lauren Leatherman (female, 00:21:09) of Harkins Builders. And Allen & Shariff Corp. won the “Aim to be Active” 10-week online challenge.
