Buch Construction Completes

D.C. Offices

Americans for the Arts, the nation's leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts, recently moved into its new Washington, D.C., offices in a building owned and leased by The Bernstein Companies.

Buch Construction, Inc., a craft union shop located in Laurel, was the builder of the 6,400-square-foot space.



Fountainhead Title Moves

The Fountainhead Title Group, the largest title company in Maryland, has moved its corporate headquarters in Columbia into a new 25,000-square-foot corporate headquarters at 10025 Governor Warfield Parkway. The building, once known as One Columbia Center, will become The Fountainhead Title Building.

Over the past few years, the company has developed a number of new positions and divisions, requiring a new working space to service its customers more effectively. Starting in 1975, the company has grown significantly to more than 35 offices across the mid-Atlantic.



Cushman & Wakefield Names MacKenzie Alliance Member

Cushman & Wakefield has announced that MacKenzie Commercial Real Estate Services, LLC has become its latest Alliance Member, covering the Baltimore Metropolitan Area. Cushman & Wakefield is the premier real estate services firm in the world.

The Cushman & Wakefield Alliance, established in January 2002, was created to expand Cushman & Wakefield's client services to specific United States markets where the firm does not maintain an office. As an Alliance member, MacKenzie will continue to be independently owned and managed, and will keep its existing name while adding "Member of the Cushman & Wakefield Alliance" to its marketing and collateral materials.



Harkins Begins University Housing

Harkins Builders, Inc. has begun construction on new privatized housing for the University of Maryland Baltimore in Baltimore. Located at Fayette and N. Paca Streets, the project includes the construction of a new 16-story tower and the renovation of several historic townhouses.

The highrise will be a dormitory building consisting of 134 units housing 287 beds. It will be used to house graduate and law students attending the University of Maryland at Baltimore. The building is a concrete structure founded on caissons. A unique element of the project will be the construction of a green roof system on top of the garage. This will include live plantings and will serve as part of the storm water management system.

The historic renovation portion of the project consists of the selective demolition (interior gut), hazardous material abatement and renovation of four different structures dating from circa 1830 to circa 1913, and their common site.



New Headquarters For Columbia Bank

The Columbia Bank has moved its corporate headquarters to 7168 Columbia Gateway Drive in Columbia.



Maryland Remodeling Center

The Maryland Improvement Contractors Association (MICA) has launched the Maryland Remodeling Center (www.Maryland Remodelers.com).

MICA, a nonprofit association devoted to defending the rights of homeowners and the home improvement industry, has developed this web site as an online educational source for area homeowners. The site features a library of home maintenance tips as well as articles on the latest remodeling trends to improve the appearance, livability and overall value of homes in Maryland. Also included is a search function through which homeowners can find a contractor in their area or by specialty.



Hanover Building Purchased

An 11,403-square-foot warehouse building at 7135 Standard Drive that is currently owner-occupied has been purchased by 7135 Standard Drive, LLC for $1.05 million.

The building is located in Hanover in Anne Arundel County.



Last Unit Leased in Distribution Center

Whitehall Industrial Properties has leased the final unit at 9325 Snowden River Parkway, a 475,400-square-foot office/warehouse facility in Snowden Distribution Center in Columbia.

Moulding & Millwork, a manufacturer and distributor of wood products to the construction and home building industry, signed a long-term lease to occupy 280,142 square feet at the facility. The company maintains several locations throughout the U.S. and this facility will serve as its flagship office and distribution center serving the east coast market.

The Titan Corporation, providers of comprehensive information and communication systems solutions and services to the U.S. Government, leased 157,000 square feet of a building to be built at 2720 Technology Drive, in the National Business Park, by Corporate Office Properties Trust.



Insignia Miller

Fountainhead Title Group leased 23,823 square feet at 10025 Governor Warfield Parkway in One Columbia Center, Columbia, from Transwestern Investment Co.

Schwartz and Bloomberg leased 1,999 square feet at 9881 Broken Land Parkway, Columbia.



McKenzie Commercial Real Estate Services, LLC

Richard Bear leased 3,284 square feet at 6996 Columbia Gateway Drive in the Westridge Corporate Center, Columbia, from AAK, LLC.

Manchester Technologies, Inc., leased 10,579 square feet at 7130 Columbia Gateway Drive in Columbia Gateway, from FSP Gateway Crossing LP.

State Employees Credit Union of Maryland leased 11,725 square feet at 989 Corporate Road, Linthicum, from Cabot Industrial Properties LP.

B.F. Saul Mortgage Company leased 3,783 square feet at 6731 Columbia Gateway Drive in One Gateway Exchange, from 6731 Gateway LLC.
